GRAND BLANC, MICH. (2006-05-17) — Eight U.S. and Canadian automotive service professionals are Las Vegas-bound, advancing as the Regional Semi-Finalists in ACDelco’s Technician of the Millennium IV competition.
The technicians – whose Independent Service Centers (ISCs) participate in ACDelco’s Total Service Support (TSS) program – battled the clock and each other to diagnose and re pair pre-determined “bugs” placed in identical vehicles. They competed in a timed, hands-on skills contest and were judged on their professionalism and accuracy in their diagnosis and repair. The technicians represent each of ACDelco’s eight regions and will face each other at ACDelco’s National Technician of the Millennium IV Finals taking place October 27, 2006 at the ACDelco National Convention in Las Vegas, Nev.

“All participants should be very proud of their accomplishments,” said Todd Dawn, ACDelco Aftermarket Training manager. “ACDelco’s Technician of the Millennium IV competition is a great way for them to demonstrate their skills, knowledge, and technical capabilities. And, it shows that being an automotive technician isn’t just about wrenching on vehicles; it’s a high-tech career that requires electronics and computer diagnostics experience and training as well.”

Ultimately, only one of the eight will be crowned ACDelco Technician of the Millennium IV at ACDelco’s National Technician of the Millennium IV Finals. In addition to the title, he will have the chance to win over $41,000 in prizes, including a 2006 GM vehicle; a commemorative trophy; a trip for him and guest as well as the TSS Shop Owner and his / her guest to a sponsor-determined location; and an interior / exterior image enhancement makeover for his TSS facility.
